Shelly Cater, Hearing Health Practitioner

Shelley is a fully licensed and qualified Hearing Health Practitioner offering Ear Wax Removal and Ear Health Checks.

Ear Wax Removal

The three types of ear wax removal offered in her clinic are:

Microsuction – A suction device (a bit like a small vacuum cleaner) is used to remove wax while the practitioner has a very small thin steel wand type attached to a suction tube, which goes into the ear. The practitioner uses a microscope attached by loupes on their head to guide them in the procedure.

Irrigation (NOT SYRINGING) – Most people get these two confused, as you use water. But irrigation the pressure is controlled by the practitioner. The device has a curve on the end, so it does not go directly onto the eardrum. It gently flushes out the wax with warm water in a circular motion.

Syringing should NOT be performed anymore.

Manual Extraction – This is used if the wax is easy to reach, with some handheld tools which gently remove the wax.
The method that’s right for you will all depend on the outcome of your consultation and examination of your ears.

Please note: We advise that you use olive oil in your ears 2-5 days prior to your appointment. This helps soften the wax. We recommend a product called Earol, but normal olive oil also works well.

Ear Health Check

If you are having any discomfort, pain, irritation, buzzing or whistling or just feel your ears are not right we suggest booking an appointment with Shelley who will expertly conduct a 15 minute Ear Health Check.

Once you have completed your Ear Health Check appointment, if a wax build up is discovered you may go ahead with wax removal. The cost of your Ear Health Check will be deducted from the price of the wax removal during your next appointment.
